Starlets Meet Arsenal’s World Cup Stars

A group of young Starlets got the chance to meet some World Cup stars as they helped Arsenal Women kick off their 2019/20 campaign.

As a sister club to the reigning FA Women’s Super League champions, our girls get the chance to take part in a Matchday experience, and we were delighted to have the honour to be part of their first game of the season.

Prior to the game our girls were put through their paces with a training session run by some of the Arsenal’s coaching staff, before having the chance to meet some of the biggest stars in the female game as mascots and player escorts for the day.

Just a few months ago many of the Arsenal players were drawing millions of viewers to watch their exploits in the Women’s World Cup, so our girls were really excited to meet with the stars they had seen so much of on TV over the summer.

England pair Leah Williamson and Beth Mead, fresh from the Lionesses run to the semi finals both started the game, while Jordan Nobbs also returned from the injury that kept her out of the action on the pitch in France.

Add in Scotland stars Kim Little, Jenny Beattie and Lisa Evans, along with a number of players from beaten finalists the Netherlands, including Danielle van der Donk and Jill Roord and it’s fair to say our girls were more than a little starstruck.

Having welcomed the players to the pitch in front of nearly 2,000 fans, they were treated to a fantastic game with Arsenal taking the three points thanks to a top performance from Mead who scored one goal and created another in a 2-1 win.

A fantastic day for the girls was rounded out with the opportunity to get autographs from their favourite players after the game. Huge thanks to all at Arsenal Women who made us so welcome and who gave the girls a truly inspirational start to the season.
