A Presentation Day to Remember
7 July 2018
As our first full season as a club draws to a close it was time to get everyone in the Starlets football family together to recognise the achievements of all involved in what has been an incredible year. Add in some beautiful summer sunshine and a win for England in the World Cup and you have pretty much the perfect day!
This time last year we’d just got started and only had one team, so it’s fair to say that this was on a rather bigger scale than anything we’d done before. Nevertheless our dedicated volunteers worked tirelessly to get everything ready, turning the place blue and gold in preparation for a celebration of everything Starlets.
We always say that football is all about building friendships and making memories and today it was obvious just how much it means to all of our girls. The sense of belonging and pride that comes from being together as part of a club was clear to see in all of the assembled players, parents, family and friends.
There were plenty of huge beaming smiles on stage as each of the girls came up to collect their individual trophies, and the tremendous team spirit that exists through all of our age groups really shone through in the reactions as the winners of the various ‘Player of the Year’ awards were announced.
The event was also an opportunity to recognise the fantastic efforts around the club for our chosen charity Breast Cancer Care, who it was revealed we had raised an incredible £2,300 over the course of the year. Following the vote at our recent AGM, we were also able to announce our charity for next season – The Willow Foundation.
With perfect timing, the presentations finished just minutes before the England’s World Cup quarter final against Sweden was due to kick off. Fortunately we had a big screen ready and everyone could gather round to see more history being made, as the Three Lions progressed to the semi-finals for the first time since 1990.
It was a real pleasure to be able to share such a special moment with our football family, crowning what has been an amazing day and an unbelievable season.
